Attention:
This Blog is different than any Goodrich Way blog you have read before.
This one is about the teachers! :)
This one is about the teachers! :)
Something new this year that I am very fortunate to be a part of is an after school workout club...
for the teachers!
On one of our opening institute days we had a discussion on how to handle the stress of our jobs as educators. Yes, it's true. There are many things that stress us out. We are trying to balance multiple curriculums along side the social/emotional needs of the 20++ young lives in our classrooms. And for me... it is the 350+ lives to keep track of on a daily basis. So even though we try to be super heroes, sometimes lesson plans, new curriculum, meetings, duties, etc. can get the best of us.
Several teachers expressed interest in exercise as a stress reliever. Naturally, I was all in on that! If teachers want to workout, I will do whatever I can to help! We set days and times each week to exercise after school and I come up with the workout of the day. For anyone that knows me, there is no half-way - it's all or nothing. Which means, I am not going easy on these ladies, the workouts are tough, but my Gator Gals keep coming back! I truly believe it is because only positives are coming from our workout club.
- We get to spend some time together where we don't have to discuss "teacher things."
- We have an opportunity to let go of anything that happened during the day.
- We push each other.
- We try things we have never done before.
- We are doing this TOGETHER.
- And of course... We are trying to improve our health!
- As I'm sure you all have read the benefits to exercise... but it can make you happier, it can help your brain and memory, it can improve your quality of sleep, it can improve your energy levels, and the list goes on.
We expect a lot out of our students each day, and we always push them to do their best and to work hard. The difference now is that we are doing the same for ourselves. Which then can make us better teachers for our students!
