Little Engineers

These last couple of weeks in science we have been working on towards solving one big
question. What has happened to the electrical system the night of the Ergstown blackout? Every unit starts out with a question that overtime the students learn through working together
to come up with a solution to a given problem. So to start to understand the problem the
students had to become engineer themselves!

The students have been reading about different types of systems. So in order
to better understand systems and how they work they had to build their own simple system.
They were given two wires, a battery, a solar panel, and a fan.
They worked together in teams to figure out how to make the system run and
understand the systems function. They were all so excited to figure out how it works and be
hands on in creating this system. The students got the chance to test out their predictions once
their systems were made on ways to increase the speed of the of the fan and ways to change
the directions. They all figured out that the sun was a crucial part in their system so of course
they wanted to take their their creations outside!

I have loved seeing the the students grow and explore throughout the course of this unit.
They have learned to work with a team and trust their instincts as engineers!
