The students in 5th/6th grade DEB have embarked on an exploration of the boundless potential within technology. They have unraveled numerous ways in which technology fosters several themes within our lives through a multimedia explore board. Some of big ideas they discovered were technology provides us strength, bravery, communication, collaboration, efficiency and productivity, creative expression, and so much more!
The students reflected on their work by completing a making thinking visible activity, called The 4 C's. The students made connections to what they drew from the explore board and their own life and learning. Next, they challenged ideas, positions, and assumptions they heard and wanted to debate. Then they decided which key concepts and ideas they thought were important and worth holding on to. Lastly, they explained what changes in attitudes, thinking, or action were suggested by the things they found in the explore board. They shared their thinking on a planning sheet, then transferred their thoughts to a Flip video.
The students will move forward with this unit by developing an inquiry question relating to one of the themes they discovered. I am excited for what they find out and what they will do with the new information they gain!
