But have you ever heard of Mohenjo-Daro in India? For the past couple of weeks, our group of 3rd graders have been learning about the Indus River Valley, an ancient Indian civilization. Throughout the unit, students learned why the Indus River was important to the development of the Indus River Valley civilization.
Students drew a picture showing how snow on top of the Himalayan mountains melted and flooded the Indus River. The flooded water left behind fertile soil, which was perfect for growing crops. People created irrigation canals to transport water from the river to their crops.
Students used an explore board to learn more about the history and culture of other ancient Asian civilizations. They look forward to the next unit, where they will learn about ancient China.
