Festive Fun in Kindergarten

That tricky leprechaun took a visit to Kindergarten today and was just too quick for our traps! We tried many things such as rainbows, pots of pretend gold, “Free Gold” signs, and sparkly shamrocks, but nothing could trick that quick leprechaun.

Throughout the week, Kindergarten has been reading some traditional Irish folklore stories. Our story of focus this week was “Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato”. The students made predictions, retold the stories with images, and even made personal connections. Kindergarten even got creative and were able to come up with their own idea of what they would do with a big potato. Some of the ideas included potato boats, potato castles, and even a mashed potato party.

For 6th grade buddies this week, the students got to choose a St. Patrick’s Day directed drawing to do together. Each student’s turned out different and it was fun to see what every buddy partnership chose to draw together!

To end our week of Irish fun, we talked about rainbows! Kindergarten learned about the order of the colors in the rainbow, how rainbows are made in real life, and learned a fun ROY G BIV song to remember the order. Then, the students engaged in a science activity called “walking rainbow”. Predictions were made about what might happen when putting a paper towel in the water to connect the cups. They had so much fun seeing the colors combine to make new colors and watching the rainbow spread across the cups!
