At Goodrich, we have created a system of Common Expectations. This has existed for many years at our school, however, this year it was time for a refresher. Dr. Scaletta created a small committee of a few teachers, including myself, that met to give our Common Expectations a makeover.
With how everchanging the last few years were, many students and staff were not on the same page of what was expected at our school. We first decided on 3 new expectations that embody everything that students should follow at school; Be Nice, Be Safe, and Be Ready to Learn. We are reinforcing using this language whenever talking with students about their behavior so they understand why something is unsafe, unkind, etc.
After establishing these 3 expectations, we split up where you will come across these expectations in the school into six different categories; Hallways, Recess, Cafeteria, Bus, Arrival & Dismissal, and Technology. For each of these, we explicitly explained what it looks like to be nice, safe, and ready to learn in each of these locations. We also created an expectations poster specifically for bathrooms, as that has some additonal expectations.
A new poster with these expectations was created, and they can be seen hanging in the hallways throughout the school as reminders to students and staff. This is our guide to keeping all students safe, ready to learn, and nice to everyone!
