6th Grade Mathematicians

 In 6th Grade, students have been hard at work learning how to solve and write expressions and equations. We started the unit gaining an understanding of balancing equations using hands on equations. Students learned that whatever is done to one side of the equation must be done to the other. They then used this knowledge to find the value of an unknown variable. 

So far during this unit students have learned to evaluate exponents, combine like terms, and write and solve expressions using the order of operations. We have done many things to get us up moving, talking, and comparing our thinking. Students will continue learning skills to be able to solve longer algebraic expressions. This is a foundational skill they will continue using each year.
