In 6th grade reading, we have come to the end of our Social Issues Book Club unit. After reading many great novels and having powerful discussions, students reflected on 5 things they learned throughout the unit. Not only do students build reading comprehension skills throughout the unit, but they learn how to be better people and build stronger relationships. As you can see from these reflections, they definitely did that.
Goals of this unit are to build awareness, empathy, and acceptance. I am so proud of the respect shown throughtout and all their takeaways at the end.
