The Importance of Teamwork in the Classroom
Teamwork in the classroom teaches students fundamental skills when working with a group to reach a common goal. Students learn how to actively listen and speak respectfully to their group members. Also, working as a team allows students to learn that their voices, opinions, and ideas are heard and respected. In fourth grade, we focus on teamwork every day by working with our table groups.
In our classroom, we change seats every 3 weeks. Once students are in their new groups, they begin brainstorming ideas of a team name on sticky notes. After brainstorming, each group member is given the chance to share their ideas.
Then, the group comes to a consensus on a team name and develop group expectations. Once the team name is agreed upon and expectations are developed, the group creates a poster to display on our wall. Each group member is in charge of one task while completing their poster.
