Ms. Kilkenny's Pre-K Class

Ms. Kilkenny’s Class in Pre-K has had a great start to the year. These students are 3, 4 or 5 years old.   These students are here for just 2 1/2 hours and in that time a lot is planned for them everyday.  The teachers address all areas of learning-social, emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics, science and social studies through a fun, developmentally appropriate curriculum called The Creative Curriculum.   Constructive, purposeful play is a big part of our day.  Play provides an excellent opportunity for the child to learn.

The social emotional development of our youngest students is critical.  We spend a lot of time at the beginning of the year fostering friendships by learning how to play together, how to share and how to take turns.

Maybe these students will be future engineers or architects?

When we do cooking in the class, maybe we are inspiring a future chef?

Having unlimited access to all art supplies might inspire a future artist.

We also use our senses to explore our world.  Sometimes there is sand in the Sensory Table or sometimes water is in the Sensory Table

When you ask me what I’ve done at school today,

And I say “I Just Played,”

Please don’t misunderstand me.

For, you see, I’m learning as I play.

I’m learning to enjoy and be successful in my work,

I’m preparing for tomorrow.

Today I am a child and my work IS play.
