"When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind" - Dr. Wayne Dyre
An act of kindness can change somebody's whole day in a positive way; being kind is much better than being right. In fourth grade, we are currently reading "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio and focusing on the importance of being kind to others. In the book, English teacher Mr. Browne writes a precept, which is anything that helps guide us when making decisions, to go by each month. For the month of September, Mr. Browne chose the quote above written by Dr. Wayne Dyre. In our fourth grade classrooms, we brainstormed ways that we can be kind and show kindness in our daily lives.
The September precept has already positively impacted how our students interact with their classmates. I have noticed them lending a hand to a friend who needs help in math, as well as writing Goodrich Game Changers to those who have been kind to them. The take-away is that being kind to others is better than being right.
