Movin' and Groovin' the Goodrich Way

The start of this year has been an exciting one to say the least! Last school year the music room was transformed into a first grade classroom followed by an intervention room and I ended the year traveling from room to room on a cart. This year I am back in the music room and it just feels like home! With that being said, many students at Goodrich School have not been in the music room since early 2020. This is the perfect time to press reset and practice expectations and procedures for how to be successful in the music room.

To do this I like to practice routines and norms by playing games. One of the games we played today in first grade is a movement activity called "The Goldfish Song" by Laurie Berkner. Students practice standing, sitting, laying, swimming and general movements in their OWN space. Learning how to move in their own space is essential to maintain safety in our very active learning space. As we move through the beginning of the year I look forward to teaching students more expectations and routines through fun games and activities to help create respectful, responsible and safe Goodrich students. After all, that is the Goodrich way.

Here are just a couple pictures of our first graders moving safely in their own space.
