The Newest Member of the Puppy Pound-Ms. Bellmer

We are welcoming a new member to the First Grade Puppy Pound! This year, I am fortunate enough to have a student teacher join me in the Puppy Pound! Ms. Bellmer is student teaching with me for the second part of the school year. She is from Benedictine University and will be with us until the beginning of May.

During her time here, she will be helping students in small groups, teach minilessons, plan activities and work on designing cooperative learning lessons. She has already jumped right in and has started building relationships with students and being a wonderful addition to our classroom.

One of the first subjects Ms. Bellmer started to plan and teach was phonics. The students loved learning about “ow” and “ou” words with some fun and engaging lessons this past week. Yesterday, Ms. Bellmer did an activity called Numbered Heads Together, and each student had an opportunity to take two shots at the Nerf basketball hoop!

Friday, as a culminating activity she has planned a lesson for the students to design a story using band aids as the characters! They can give the band aids a name and a face, and then design a picture. Then, using words that we have been practicing all week, they will
write a story to go with the picture.

Having Ms. Bellmer in the Puppy Pound has allowed for so much extra learning to occur! We couldn't be happier to have her on our team!
