Buddies!

Last week, as part of our Significant 72, we spent time getting to know our kindergarten buddies! Sixth graders prepared a short list of interview questions to learn about their buddy and to answer for their buddy as well. After getting to know each other, buddies picked out a book to read together.

Buddies is a way for 6th graders to take on a mentor-ship role, and for kindergartners to have a friendly face at their new school, as well as a role model to look up to and learn from. Throughout the school year we will support our buddies as they work to build their social, academic, and problem solving skills. Both age groups will learn from each other and build upon their strengths. The culminating activity at the end of the year will be a field trip to the zoo with our buddies!

Since this is my first year teaching 6th grade, this was my first experience with kindergarten buddies as well. I was very proud to see how the 6th graders took on the role of helping their buddies and making them feel comfortable and happy. We are looking forward to building a great relationship with our buddies and working together each week!
