Bones, Bones, Bones

Something new I am teaching this year in P.E. with 3rd-6th Grade is the skeletal system.  Each grade level has to learn a certain number of bones in the human body.  Each day we play a game where the students are not only getting exercise, but they are learning and practicing where the bones are and their medical names.  Many of them know the bones' nicknames - for example:
The Clavicle is commonly known as the Collar Bone.

I told the students a few rhymes or tricks to help them remember a few bones.  One of our favorites to act out is: "Elvis likes to shake his Pelvis."
They have also come up with some on their own.  My favorite that gets their in a round-about way is: Patella... reminds me of Nutella... which starts with an "N" sound... Knee Cap! (Definitely a long shot, but whatever works, right?!)

It has been really fun so far watching them say the names while identifying the correct bone.  And working together to help each other if someone made a mistake.  They also been getting plenty of exercise.  We have been using pedometers in P.E. and even though we have had to stop moving and label our skeletons at the end of the game, the students are getting between 1,500-2,000 steps each class!
