Save the Bees Continued…

Over the past month and a half, my students have been working on a very important task: finding a way to save the bees! Although this project was introduced in science class with Mrs. Strejcek, I saw first-hand the excitement and determination that my students had to complete this important mission. Mrs. Strejcek documented the students’ progress in her recent blog.  She indicated that the final phase is for the students to construct a model of their plan to save the bees.

The students attacked this problem in a variety of ways. Some groups chose to construct a home that could protect the bees while other groups created a garden to help the bee population.  One group even chose to create a public service announcement documenting the need for bees in our environment and different ways to help them.  The students proudly displayed their product at a Bee Museum.  Both their teachers and peers were incredibly impressed with the ideas and hard work.

The guests of the museum provided specific and meaningful feedback to their classmates.  They used the structure carousel feedback.  They rotated around the museum to see each exhibit and offer their thoughts and praise.

Some of the feedback that my students appreciated:

“I really liked the bee pollen that you brought in to show that pollen helps bees.”

“I like the home you created to keep your bee safe.”

This turned out to be successful in many ways.  Not only were the students who created their solution for the bees impressive, but also those that were observing their hard work.
