The School Year Marches On

With the beginning of March and spring right around the corner, I thought this would be a great time to share what spring holds for the sixth graders at Goodrich School.
The proverb: “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb” is a great analogy to use with the ending of the sixth graders last year at Goodrich. As we move into March we find ourselves prepping for important academic tasks like the DARE Essay, PARCC testing, and COGAT testing, along with our normal everyday routines of Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. This is a stressful time of year for our students because everything we have been doing in sixth grade all culminates in the spring...the lion part of our analogy.

As we get through the important testing and academic requirements of sixth grade, we find ourselves moving into the lamb part of our analogy, or the more fun times for the sixth graders at the end of the year.

DARE Graduation - After nine forty-five minutes lessons and writing the DARE essay, we celebrate with a DARE graduation...t-shirts and all!
DARE Lock-in - A fun-filled night for all sixth graders in the district...Be aware students do not sleep at all that night and can be very cranky the next day.  :)

Junior High Visit - Toward the end of April students will be making their way over to  Jefferson Jr. High to see what seventh grade has in store for them. This is always an exciting day for the kids as they find out about academics and how many activities the junior high offers them.

Field Day - Sixth grade’s last field day with Mrs. Weber...always an amazing day of fun!

Kindergarten Buddies Brookfield Zoo Trip - This is a day we get to spend with our buddies exploring everything the Brookfield Zoo has to offer.

Genius Day - A day where students get the chance to “show off” one of the Genius Hour projects that they worked on during the school year.

Sixth Grade End of the Year Party - Sponsored by the parents of the sixth graders, past parties have been at the Cypress Cove pool and at Castaldo Park.  The party includes food, fun, and a lot of laughing.
The Last Walk - On the last day of school, sixth graders will take their last walk through the halls of Goodrich School with all students, grades K-5, cheering them on to the junior high.

Sixth graders have a lot to look forward to as we wind down the year.  We will make sure these last few weeks at Goodrich let the students go out with a roar.
