Writer's Notebooks

As we begin learning and growing in a new school year, it is important that students take ownership and pride in their work right from the start. To help instill these values in writing, students had the opportunity to personalize their writer’s notebook. This helps students to take ownership in the writing they are going to be doing throughout the school year and is an opportunity for students to express themselves. I encouraged them to put anything that is school-appropriate on their notebook, including photos, magazine & newspaper clippings, stickers, and words that symbolize who they are. Students can refer back to the images they chose to help them create stories and pieces of writing later this year. Students really enjoyed this activity and it created an opportunity for their classmates and myself to get to know them a little better.
