Holidays Around the World

This month we are traveling around the world to explore how different holidays are celebrated in different countries. Our first stop on this world tour is Mexico.

This week we grabbed our suitcase and our passport and boarded the plane. The kids were beyond excited! We learned about the holiday celebrations in Mexico and how they are similar and different than the holiday celebrations we have in the United States.  We also discussed why it is important for us to learn about how holidays are celebrated in different parts of the world. It is very important for all students to learn about and be aware of different cultural practices. These students are proud of their culture and excited to learn more about it.

All of my students are Mexican and have family in Mexico. It is awesome to share stories about their personal experiences while in Mexico for the holidays. We compared and contrasted practices in Mexico with practices in the United States using a Venn Diagram. Here is what we found.
