Our non-fiction reading unit about apples has come to an end and we have learned all about how apples grow, are harvested, and are made into applesauce. Students read various books about apples: starting from when they are a seed and ending with what can be made from apples. Students learned about the process an apple goes through in the factory to be made into applesauce and working on putting the steps in order to retell the information.
As a fun activity to finish our unit, the students were able to participate in making their own applesauce! We followed the steps of the recipe and referenced what we were doing back to our texts from this unit. Most exciting of all, students were able to taste their applesauce at the end! They gave their applesauce high ratings and most were asking for more.
It was a great way to apply the knowledge we learned and left us excited to learn about our next unit: All About MAPS!
