First graders have a lot to be grateful for this year and this week we’ve been talking all about it! Our topic for Social Emotional Learning was gratitude, so we spent time listening to books about gratitude and discussing all the different things we have to be grateful for. Students especially enjoyed listening to a video from Kid President who listed 25 things to be thankful for. Some of his ideas might have seemed a little silly at first, like being thankful for pants, but it certainly got us thinking about all the things we have to be grateful for.
After much discussion, students were tasked with creating a gratitude jar on Seesaw full of all the things they are thankful for. Students used a planning page that included some different categories such as people, places, food, and games to get them started. It was awesome to see students making connections about what they were grateful for! So many students found that they include their family as something they were thankful for!
Here are some examples.
