It was finally time to add expressions! Students had a great time deciding how each person would feel based on their action. Some decided that crossing arms was because they were sad or bored while other thought they should be angry. We had different emotions about how someone running might feel which made it much more fun. We also had a great time adding hairstyles to each person. Check out our awesome illustrations below!

Illustrations in Narratives
When writing narratives in kindergarten, their illustrations are critical to supporting the story. Students are able to show their stories through the setting and characters. However, it is a very difficult skill to draw characters in action. Today, we spent time learning how to draw people in various poses. We started simple with a person waving. We continued on with a person with their hands on their hips and then with their hands crossed. At this point in the lesson we started to discuss how these characters will need facial expressions to show their emotions. Before moving on to adding expressions, we continued to draw people in action. We brainstormed other types of actions to draw and decide on a person walking, running, jumping, dancing, and finally sitting. We shared ideas about how to adjust the placement on the page to make sure the person was touching the ground instead of floating in the air.
