Writing for an Audience

I’m happy to be co-teaching during writing in Miss Gullatte’s 4th grade class this year. Students have been focusing on writing narratives. I had the opportunity to work with many of these students last year in 3rd grade and it’s really awesome to see what they remember about the writing process from last year, but more importantly, that their passion for writing is still strong.

Part of what fuels their passion for writing is the opportunity to share their narratives with an audience. They are diligent because they want their readers to enjoy their stories. They understand that as authors, they build relationships with their readers through their writing.

4th graders recorded their first narratives as a read aloud. Students then had the opportunity to listen to each others’ stories and provide feedback on what they heard. It was really an awesome experience to watch our students’ reactions while listening to the individual stories and also to read the compliments they left for each other.
