Daily PE in the Classroom

At our school, 2nd graders have PE with Mrs. Weber 3 times per week. While I know they wish it was everyday, unfortunately it is not! Last year through a new Illinois State guideline, we started implementing Daily PE time on the days that students do not have PE as a special. Homeroom teachers do some form of physical activity with students on these days, and it has actually turned into one of our favorite times of week.

While the weather is still nice, we've been taking advantage of it! For Daily PE, I have used some of the Kagan cooperative learning classbuilders. We have done Drop the Rock, Formations, and Balloon Bounce to name a few. These are active games, while also having students learn how to work together.

This addition to our schedule has been a wonderful way to guarantee students not only get their physical activity in for the day, but also allows for built in time to work on cooperative learning and teamwork.
