Team Building with the Board of Education

We had some very important guests visit our classroom today. The Woodridge School District 68 Board of Education annually takes a tour of all the buildings. Today, we were lucky enough to spend some time with these special guests. When they arrived we invited them to come play two of our favorite team builders.

The first game we played was Balloon Volleyball. We need four players for this game. Two players hold the string as a net and the other two work together to try to bounce the balloon back and forth over the string. As a group we count the number of bounces trying to meet our goal of 10 bounces. If we meet our goal we celebrate our success and try again to improve as a group.  It was a blast teaching this game to our visitors!

The next game we played was Cup Stacking. Anyone can stack cups, however we had an additional challenge. We could not touch the cups with our hands! We used a rubber band with four strings attached. Our teams found out very quickly that in order to succeed at this challenge we needed to work together. If only one teammate pulled the string we wouldn't be able to open the rubber band enough to pick up or drop the cup. Even if three of the teammates were working together it still wouldn't work. This game requires teamwork, communication, and some patience to succeed. We worked on many social and emotional learning standards without even noticing it. We had so much fun to working through this challenge today especially with the Board of Education!

Thank you so much for visiting our classroom!
