Apple Orchard Fun!

In preschool we have been learning all about trees! This week our dramatic play center was turned into an apple orchard to go with our topic of study. Students have loved taking a turn playing there during center time. This center offers so many opportunities for students to work on their math skills!

Above, students are picking apples off the tree, sorting them, and counting the apples they have picked.

When students have finished picking the apples, they must go and buy them. There is a paper posted with prices. They need to see how many tickets each item costs and count that number of tickets out. The cashier is responsible for telling the customer how much they owe. The cashier also sells apple cider and next week we will add pumpkins that the students will make.

The best part about preschool is you are never learning just one subject. Besides math, students are improving their cognitive skills by following a play scheme and are working on problem solving and social skills to share the apples with everyone and communicate back and forth with each other to buy the apples. They are also improving their literacy skills by reading the environmental print and menu within the center. And finally the most important part, they are having fun and continuing to build foundational academic skills and a love for learning!
