Family Reading Night
Family Reading Night is a yearly event in Illinois held every November. This year Goodrich welcomed families with pizza and some of the funniest books we could find. After pizza and cookies students and their families found their favorite teachers reading books like Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. Mrs. Weber even managed to do some Take Off, Touch Down about their favorite foods.
Do Not Open This Book by Micheala Muntean was another one of our favorite funny books shared by Miss Kraft. Who would think A Book With No Pictures by BJ Novak would be something anyone would want to read or even consider funny? Ms. Larem gave all of us a good laugh. Mrs. Raci always makes me laugh and at family reading night she showed off her comedic talents reading The Cat, The Dog, Little Red, The Exploding Eggs, The Wolf, and Grandma by Christyan Fox.
Mrs. Schulte cracked us up with The Day the Crayons Came Back by Oliver Jeffers in preparation for the Reader’s Theater of The Day the Crayons Quit. Teachers dressed as the crayons that wanted to quit their jobs and complain to Duncan(Dr. Scaletta). It was a fun story for the kids as well as the adults. We all loved showing off our acting skills. These were just a few of the funny books we read. There are so many funny books we had to choose from. If we read them all family reading night would have turned into a slumber party!!
When all is said and done it was a fun night of laughter, good books and lots of food. A big thank you goes out to our PTO for their support. I’m already thinking about next year…Think about planning your own family reading night at home. Choose a theme, plan a fun meal, everyone picks their own book or passage of a book to share with the family turn off the TV, computer, iPad, etc. and enjoy each other’s love of books.
