Bringing the Past Alive!

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. We still celebrate his birthday today because he was a great president and ended slavery. For his birthday, we had a BLAST from the PAST!

Mrs. Pippen’s 6th great grandfather was the mayor of Chicago and Abraham Lincoln visited his house. The chair he sat in is something that her family has kept for two centuries! It is stuffed with horse hair. She brought it to class for us to see. It almost looks like a royal chair – fit for a king or queen!

She also brought in some spoons that were used during his visit. We have no idea if he actually ate off of the spoons.

Even though President Lincoln can’t visit us, some artifacts from his time are still around today. It makes us feel sad that he didn’t live longer, but also makes us proud of the great president he was!
